Registration - Important Notices

You must pre-register to take the CELPIP. There is no walk-in registration. It is important to register well in advance because test centres have limited capacity and registration materials are processed in the order in which they are received.

Please note that CELPIP is a computer-delivered test. You must be familiar with using a mouse and keyboard to take this test. You will not receive a refund if you are unable to take the test due to lack of computer skills.

Very rarely, technical problems may occur that result in late starts and/or rescheduling of your CELPIP tests. Should technical problems at the test centre make it necessary to cancel your testing session, or if it becomes evident after the tests that your scores could not be reported, you have two options:

1) to retest at a later date (no additional fee) in those tests where scores were not reported, or
2) to receive a refund of the original fees for those tests.

Do not forget to bring your valid, photo identification and your Test Admission Ticket, or else you will not be admitted to the test.

You cannot take the CELPIP more than once within a three-month period.

Examinees with disabilities should contact the CELPIP International Office for more information.

Submitting the Registration Form

Once your Registration Form is complete, submit it either in person, by mail, or by fax to the CELPIP International Office.

Test Admission Tickets

The CELPIP International Office will mail you a Test Admission Ticket four (4) weeks before your scheduled test date.

Your Test Admission Ticket contains two parts – the admission ticket and your receipt. Take both parts to the test centre on the day of testing – the Supervisor will separate the ticket into the two parts and will keep the upper portion of the Test Admission Ticket. The Supervisor will give you the lower portion as a receipt for your records.

Both the Test Admission Ticket and your receipt will have three sets of information:
  1. Test Registration Number (REG#) and a Personal Identification Number (PIN). Make a copy of your REG# and PIN and keep them in a safe place. You will need your REG# and PIN in order to start the test and you will need them if you wish to view your test scores online.
  2. Your name, address, contact, and personal information. Check the name on the ticket to make sure that it is spelled exactly the same as on your identification. Check the printing of the other information on your ticket. If there are spelling errors, numerical errors, or changes to addresses or contact information, please inform the CELPIP International Office immediately. If you are unable to contact the main office prior to your test, inform the check-in personnel on the day of your test. (Spelling errors for names are accepted. Name changes are not. If your name changes because of marriage, please contact the CELPIP International Office.) The test Supervisor will review and sign any valid changes to the ticket. If the Supervisor does not sign the changes to the ticket, they will not be made in the registration data-base.
  3. Test Session Information. Check carefully the address of the testing centre, and the date and time of the test. You may have been assigned to a test sitting that was not your first choice.

What to do if you have lost or not received your Test Admission Ticket

If you have not received your Test Admission Ticket four (4) working days before the test, or you have lost your ticket, contact the CELPIP International Office and they will tell you if your registration form and payment have been received, and if your Test Admission Ticket has been sent to you. If you have been registered, they will confirm the location, date, and time of the test and give you authorization to be admitted to the test.

It is your responsibility to find out when you are registered to take the test. If you are unable to contact the CELPIP International Office, go to the test centre for the test sitting you chose, with your valid identification. If your name is on the official List of Examinees, you will be admitted.

No fee payment refund will be made on the basis that you did not receive your Test Admission Ticket.

Cancellations and Transfers

Cancellations

If you are unable to attend a test for which you have already registered, you may request a cancellation of your registration by contacting the CELPIP International Office. If your request for a cancellation is received at the CELPIP International Office at least one week before the date of the test, you will be eligible for a refund of 50% of your registration fee. No refunds will be granted for cancellation requests received less than one week before the test date.

Your cancellation request must include:

  1. Your name and address as it appears on your Registration Form
  2. The name of the Test Centre you selected and the date and time of the test
  3. Your test Registration Number and PIN, if you have received your Test Admission Ticket.

Transferring to Another Test Session

You may request a transfer to an alternate test session. Your request for a transfer must be received by the CELPIP International Office at least one week before the original test date. Please note that there is an additional $55 CDN + HST for a transfer. This fee must be received within one week of your request.

Test Day Procedures

Please arrive at the test centre at least 45 minutes before the test begins. Examinees who arrive late will not be admitted to the test room, and will not receive a transfer or a refund. You must have valid photo identification to be admitted to the test centre.

Please bring to the test your:

The Test Centre Supervisor will check your identification and Test Admission Ticket (more information on these below). You will then be asked to sign your test notepaper. Following this, you will be required to wait in a seated area until the rest of the examinees have been registered. A test Supervisor will then read test instructions, and you will be asked to enter the test room.

To be admitted to the CELPIP, you must have your photograph taken at the test session. This photo will be added to the CELPIP registration database, and will be included on your Personal and Official Score Reports. At test centres outside of Canada, your fingerprint is also required to be admitted to the test. Your right index fingerprint will be taken and added to the CELPIP Database. You will then be assigned a test station, and you can begin the test.

For security reasons, personal items will not be allowed into the testing room. Valuable items, such as wallets, may be kept in a Personal Property Bag provided, and kept secure during the test. Any other items that you bring with you to the test centre will placed in a secure area. Do not bring any expensive jewelry, or cameras with you to the test. You do not need to bring pens or pencils, as these will be supplied to you.

Note: Leave your valuables at home. Bring only what is necessary for admission to the test.

Identification Requirements

To be admitted to the CELPIP exam, you MUST present your original valid photo identification at the test session.

Do not register for a test date unless you are sure that you will have the necessary valid photo identification available. (Example: If your passport is with a visa office, you cannot appear at your scheduled test with photocopies of your passport. You will not be admitted to the test and will forfeit your test fee.)

You must have valid personal identification to be admitted to the test centre. To be acceptable, your identification must have your full name as it appears on your Test Admission Ticket.

Valid forms of identification include the following:

  • passport with photograph and signature
  • national identification card with photograph and signature
  • military identification with photograph and signature
  • certificate of citizenship with photograph and signature

Unacceptable identification documents include:

  • any expired document
  • a Social Security card
  • a Social Insurance card
  • a driver’s license
  • an employee identity card
  • a student identification card
  • a notary-prepared letter or document
  • a credit card of any type

It is recommended that you bring two pieces of acceptable identification to the test centre on the day of testing.

You will be asked for a second piece of identification if your primary identification:

  • is not written in English language characters
  • does not have your name, signature and a recent, recognizable photograph on it
  • shows any discrepancy with other information that you provide.

The test Supervisor can request additional identification documents at his or her discretion.

Admittance to the test centre after an examination of your identification document(s) and your Test Admission Ticket by the Supervisor does not imply that your identification document(s) is/are valid and that your scores will be released. All cases of questionable identification that are reported to the CELPIP Security Committee are subject to review and approval. If the identification is not approved, no scores will be issued, and no refund of registration fees will be made.
